Ukraine changed the symbol of the Soviet era, hammer and sickle will no longer be seen on the shield of the Motherland Monument
Ukraine this week replaced the Soviet hammer and sickle symbol on the shield of the Motherland monument with a trident, the Ukrainian coat of arms. "We believe that this change will mark the beginning of a new stage in the revival of our culture and identity," said Ukraine's Ministry of Culture. The week-long operation to destroy the Russian insignia ended on 6 August.
